Default ZJ turns over but wont start

I have a 1994 V8 ZJ Grand Cherokee Laredo. My jeep started acting up up a few days ago. When I would push down on the gas it would sometimes accelerate and sometimes do nothing at all. Immediately after it did nothing at all, the Jeep lost all power and shut off. I tried getting it started again, it would turn over but did not start. I tried putting in a little extra gas and it actually started but then after driving a very short distance, I pushed down on the gas and it did nothing at all and then died.
The fuel pump was replaced about two years ago and I changed the fuel filter last month. I'm sure I can fix the problem but I need to know where to start, any ideas?

It sounds like the fuel pump crapped out on you again. Pay a little more for an OEM (original equipment from mfgr) pump, cheap pumps will leave you stranded after only a short time.

I wrote a good post on transfering the fuel pump on a 1993, same engine and everything else. Do a search on my posts and you will find it. Run into issues shoot me an email jrserviseatembarqmaildotcom.

Its not terribly hard, provided there is not a bunch of fuel in the tank.

It starts if he puts fuel down the throttle body, it has spark.

Thanks all for the replies. Busted, I know you said to get an OEM fuel pump and jronald I saw your fuel pump transfer guide and you said to avoid the cheap models but I'll probably only have my Jeep for at most another year and was wondering if this would suffice for that time frame:

I wish it would say who it's made by, but it looks ok in the picture.

Jronald, I used your fuel pump replacement guide and it was a great help. Instead of breaking the bolt getting the fuel tank straps off, I just used a wrench to get the bolt far enough down to use a socket on it. The jeep is alive again, thanks!

that happened to mine, check the spark plug cable going to the distributor, make sure its not touching the exhaust manifold. If it is it could have melted enough of the wire housing to cause an arc killing spark while driving but not while testing.

it was a pina to figure that one out

a buddy once told me while diagnosing an engine..
you need three things to run; fuel, fire, air. if you suspect one first check the other two to make sure.
