Default XJ guy looking for first WK

My 2000 XJ Limited has just been deemed a total loss. Looking for my first WK, but don't know much about them. LOVED the XJ. Can I expect the same reliability with the WK? Which motor is better? (fuel economy not a concern) Which 4x4 system is best? Any insight appreciated.

That damage is so fixable! Buy the XJ back from the insurance company and fix it yourself. But if you still want a Grand, do not be worried about reliability.

The WK & XJ are 2 completely different animals - motor, tranny, t'fercase, suspension, inerior & electric. I think they are 4.7L V8, some with a 5.2? It's not as bad on gas as the 5.9L pig, and I have been told it has plenty of power for towing. WKs have a couple different transfercases, and they have their share of problems & quirks ... but that's any vehicle. I know this info is pretty generalized. A good resource for specific information on this particular model would be on JeepsUnlimited Forum & JeepForum. They have very active sections over there.

Good Luck.

Hey, man! The damage is just sheetmetal! From the looks of it, the insurance guys just figured it would cost them more to fix it than it's worth. You missed the bumper mount, so I'll bet you didn't hurt the unit frame. You can buy the parts from a yard for what it would cost them to paint it! Don't give up on it yet!

That Jeep is fixable as has been said. If you really want a grand, get a ZJ or a WJ if you don't wheel much, but not a WK, unless you want to drive around a glorified minivan with 4WD.

That, plus a hood, grill, and bumper. The radiator and trans cooler look fine. Thats the awesome thing about XJs is you could use a front clip from a first gen (84-96), since the second gens are harder to find at junkyards, at least around here.

Thanks all who replied. There is more damage than evident in that photo. For now I'm just going to drive my '99 XJ and drive some WJ's and WK's. I may end up with a Wrangler Unlimited.
