Hey guys, I have a customer with a 99 Wj and a np247 and he needs another one of those, but I have heard that you can swap in a 242 or 231, what are my options here people...... I have searched all over and can't seem to get a for sure this does work/ can work.

 

I'm not 100% sure on the wjs, but on the zjs I have swapped in three np231 and two np242. All you gotta do is swap input shafts on the t-case. Tear both cases apart and put the input shaft from the original case into the one your swapping in. Google and find out if the mounting points on the rear of the tranny are the same as earlier zjs's or cherokees (they are the same), if they are your golden. Make sure that the case you swap in has a date on it AFTER '94.5'. There was an annulus gear cut change in mid 94, if you swap the input shaft into one earlier then that with your newer one then the t-case will eat itself.
