WJ lockers
Hi,
Is there a way to manually force the quatro-drive system to lock the vari-lock differentials? On a 2001 Grand Cherokee WJ wi 4.7L and quatro drive.
As I understand the middle transmission is automatically locked when shifting to 4LO - but the vari lock diff's appear to have to detect a spinning wheen before activating...? And when that happens it is often too late to get out of a mud pit :-)...
So I want to be able to manually activate them before going in the deep end.
Is the activation hydraulic or electrical?
Hope someone can help...
Thomas

Followup...?
No replies...?
Is it a hard question - or is the answer so obvious that I should be able to figure it out myself?
I found a description of how it works - and apperently it is hydraulic - but can I somehow apply the pressure manually? Have anyone tried that?
Still hoping someone knows the inner workings and can help me...

You may have to go to a website for serious off-roaders like the guys with TJ's. I think the Rubicons have locking diffs. They mess around with all types of lockers and may be able to help.

I BELIEVE the veri-lock Is actually operated by the wheel slip. There is kind of a pump in there that applies pressure to the clutch packs when the axles spin at different speeds. I may be thinking of a different system though. I am out to breakfast with the wife. I will look it up I a couple hours when I get home and give you a full description.

No literally only TJ's.
Op, you can go with automatic (lunch box) lockers, or selectable full case lockers.
Google both and see which one will suit your needs the best. Lunchbox lockers won't need the gear pattern reset where full case lockers will which are also more expensive.
I have a lunch box locker up front. Easy to install and very effective.

Thanks. I'm not ignorant anymore. Well, at least about this locker. LOL.

Thanks - I understand that a rebuild seems to be required to make them manually lockable...
Thanks
