I have a 2001 larado
Low miles great jeep
Tree fell on it, had it repaired, windshield leaks bad
Wife crashed 4wheeler into it
Still runs & drives great
It has 4.0 I6
I have 2001 limited very nice v8 with engine noise
If you took the transmission and transfer case as well, plus all the electronics, you could but it would be quite a job to switch everything over. The transmissions are different so the engine won't bolt on, the rear axle is different so you'll need a special u-joint to connect the driveshaft to it. You'll need to swap the PCM and TCM from the 4.0 jeep. These vehicles work on a CAN-BUS system where all the modules talk to each other and like any group it's hard for them to agree. What used to be a simple task years ago is now a can of worms. After you get it all together, you may have to get the dealer to reprogram the PCM.
Oh...I just thought about another thing. The V8s use a hydraulic cooling fan and the 4.0 used an electric one, AND they are controlled differently! The hydraulic fan is powered by the power steering pump.
Hey, I hear you. My 71 and my bones ache. My WJ is a pleasure to drive. I DID however, replace that ill-shaped driver's bucket with an XJ seat for more comfort for my hips. I need to find an early ZJ seat for color match.
As far as sheet metal goes, you should be able to swap fenders, hood, and doors easy enough. Couldn't a body shop or glass shop reseal the windshield? Do you have a place to store the bones of the V8 Limited?
I'm soon to be 69 and switched from race cars (1963-2009) to Jeeps as my health changed and my cars kept getting faster the wife won out and only have one left.
My first Jeep was my 04 WJ an Overland model (7 yrs. ago) then a year later a 99 XJ I built for off road use. They are a enjoyable hobby and my WJ became my DD.
Here are a few photos of mine in the order I bought them, The wagon ran in a street legal class in the high 9's. If you look close it has a handicapped plate on the front.
Hey Fred! That's the first time I really saw your XJ. NICE!! A little off-topic, but who cares! I started it.
Anyhow, Charles, I hope with a little work, you can be proud of your Laredo. What's a jeep without a few dents anyway? LOL! I'd give my
Laredo a couple inches of lift and bigger tires but it's my ONLY driver and I don't want to screw it up.
BTW Fred. I'm finally going to swap to Akebono brakes. I'm sick of constantly fixing my Teves. The front rims are always covered in dust and they squeak.
