Default Warning lights

Hi, hoping this is posted in the correct place.

I have an '07 Cherokee and the Electric Throttle Control warning light comes on. The car seems to be running fine, and once it's been driven and the engine turned off, if we start it again the light does not come on again. The check engine light will come on periodically also.

Before we rush to the dealership (it's a fair distance from us and last time we used them for another car, there were terrible, totally incorrect diagnostics and tried to overcharge significantly), thought I'd have a look online?
Thanks, John

Take it to the dealer so they can scan it. Unless you have a scantool that can pull codes. You did say the check engine light comes on as well, so there should be a code in there somewhere. A quick google gave me a couple hits on what 'might' be the problem simply searching for throttle warning light. Could be something simple like a dirty throttle body, or it needs replaced. Could be software related, which will require a dealer. Because it has a warning light for the throttle control, i assume it is drive-by-wire, meaning there is no mechanical connection between the throttle and the gas pedal. All electrical. If thats the case, i wouldnt trust driving it until it is fixed. It may drive fine, or it could crap out on the highway with no throttle response whatsoever.

It might be time for a software update? You may need a dealer...

Well, if you actually have an 07 Cherokee, then no, this is not the correct place. This is the Grand Cherokee forum. The Cherokee is a different vehicle. For that, check out the newer Cherokee forum.

But that's 2014 and up so....

So maybe you actually have a Grand Cherokee, which is not the same thing as a Cherokee, and you are in the right place.
