Veri-lok axle question
Hello I've just recently stumbled upon the whole veri-lok axle thing, and would like to find and swap them into my jeep... Question is, how do I know if a jeep has those in it or not so as to not get the wrong ones.

According to WJjeeps the vari-lok axles seem to be coupled with the Quadra-Drive NV247 or NV-147. Refer to 'Type 4' under drive systems in following link.

Thanks. I have a set of front and rear I can get out of a quarta trac ll jeep but not sure if they're the ones or not. Curious if there is a Vin code I should look for on it or how to tell. Probably wouldn't have it but I have no clue.

QT2 did not come stock with those differentials. The QuadraDrive 2 did. It was an option on the Limiteds after it came out but standard on Overlands. The tcase is the same between them, the NV247.
There is a tag on the diff case that says whether it is limited slip or not. I forget what exactly it looks like but the wjjeeps link above should have a pic of it I think.
I want a set too. I also have the QuadraTrac II like you.

Ah, OK. Gotcha.
Yeah, the QuadraTrac II did not come with the Vari-Lok diffs, much to my consternation once I figured that out. I'll be on the lookout for a cheap set whenever finances brighten up a bit. I imagine I'm not the only one.

Not at all I mean... What a great option and it kinda sucks it wasn't made standard for a jeep of any sorts to have. Jeeps ARE off road vehicles...and should have been made as such in any possible way to make them the best at any rate. They do have a history to uphold afterall. Lol

You will need the axle shafts to go with the unit if you are not using the whole differential. The axles are different lengths over the std units. Also those units are not rebuildable as no internal parts kits are available so when they go bad you have to replace the whole posi unit.

Thanks for that info. I definitely want a set for mine but may have to resort to getting JY units if I can locate a jeep that has them.

I saw the innards for sale but they weren't exactly in my budget. It'll be a while anyway so who knows what will come.

Go to Jeep's website and input the VIN of the prospective Jeep into their website (click 'Equipment Listing'). https://www.jeep.com/webselfservice/jeep/index.html If the Jeep has the 3.73 axle, it will have Vari-Lock, and if it's a 4.7, it will also have Vari-Lock.
