If you plan on doing a transmission service on your Grand Cherokee, do yourself a big favor and spend an extra twenty bucks at the dealer for a reuseable transmission pan gasket. I did a service on my ZJ a week ago using a WIX filter kit with a rubber gasket. Needless to say it leaked from the very start. It's very difficult to get the torque just right on the pan bolts in order to get the gasket to seal without distorting the gasket. I went to the local dealer and picked up the reuseable gasket, installed it and torqued the bolts to 150 inch pounds (spec is 146-165 inch pounds), and refilled with five quarts of ATF-4. The MOPAR part number for the 42RE gasket is 04295875AC. I tried to see if there was an aftermarket gasket available, but found only the dealer has one available. My driveway is now spot free again.

+1 This goes for most other transmissions too. You just can beat the reuseable gaskets and they have spacers built into the gasket to prevent smashing the gasket due to overtightening the bolts. You still need to torque the bolts so you dont mess up the threads in the trans case though-obviously.
