Trans issues?
Hi I have 1998 jeep Cherokee, due to flat tire and some rough terrain i managed to lose my reverse its a 46re and a 5.9l or 360
now im having over heating problems, the mechanic saying because of the transmission, interesting fact is it only over heats going uphill
the head gaskets recently changed, the rad been pressure tested, but im running straight water, do think adding coolant and a Tstat would fix the problem?
Thanks

Money says your torque converter isn't locking up and the trans is dumping a lot of heat into the radiator, btw.

I don't think the Cherokee came with a 5.9 V-8, maybe the OP just forgot to put the "Grand" in there.
David, why are you running straight water ? Do you have a transmission cooler ?
If a transmission is going to overheat, it will do it under more of a load, i.e. going uphill, especially when outside temps are warmer.
I had a Montero Sport 4x4 that, when going up hills anytime but winter, would overheat the trans. The transmission cooler was the issue, I replaced it and now no overheating.
A flat tire or rough terrain should not cause you to lose the reverse band in the transmission, sounds like you need to re-build the transmission..
