So I got off work and started driving home. Started to hear a humming noise which git a little loader as I accelerated. After a couple miles it stopped. My steering became more stiff as I drove. I got off the highway and pulled to a gas station. Lifted my hood and there was fluid all over the place. I checked all my fluids and power steering was bone dry. Went and got a bottle. Put it in and started to go home. I got about 200 ft and the humming started then right back to hard steering. Managed to make it home with a bit of arm muscle and it was making clanking noises as I parked. What could it be? Only had this about 6 months please help. It has 218k miles. Thanks in advance.

Obviously, you popped a seal or hose somewhere. Visually inspect all the hoses between the pump and the steering box for obvious damage. If you can't see anything, get it running and pour some fluid into the reservoir and watch it. You probably shouldn't clean anything until you know where the leak is because if you do, you'll have to clean it all over again. Proceed with caution so you don't get sprayed in the eyes. Limit how long you run it without fluid so as not to damage the pump. I'll bet it's the pressure hose.
