starter won't shut off

starter won't shut off
when i shut off my 02 grand cherokee the starter continues to run. it's not grinding or anything, it just won't shut off. any suggestions?

You might smack it with a hammer for a caveman style diagnostic haha. If you have a remote starter then see what it does. You can use a jumper wire from the little wire to the bigger one at the starter. If the remote starter or jumper wire makes the starter work normally, I would look into the ignition switch for a problem. If the starter still fails then its probably the relay/starter.
