Red face So sorry for the silly question.. accelerate.. radio issues..

Silly yes.. may this be my worst issue, right?! LOL If this is in the wrong area - let me know!!!

New to Jeeps in general, working my way through.. but truthfully I dig it a lot.

2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo. 158k nice deal, older lady owned it, babied it.. there are a few issues here and there, and glad I found the forum.

So my radio issue.. (riveting, I know..)

Sitting, even coasting, not hitting the accelerator, my radio signal is CRYSTAL CLEAR. Hit the gas pedal, the signal goes to crap fades, quiets, little pops. Foot off the accelerator, and the signal returns strong.

FM.. AM.. even Bluetooth.. I have this plug in Bluetooth thingy that I love (because all of my cars are generally old.. so I need that to at least touch technology.. lol) They all have the same symptoms.

Again, sorry for the seemingly minor "issue".. I know others have more pressing situations. I have noisy shocks (clunk clunk when I first drive), some of the windows don't open, but I'll leave those for another day! All in all, I really like it.

But I am a radio geek and this is driving me nuts.

Any insight, what and where would be awesome!

Harmonic balancer?

I don't know? Just that someone I knew once said it could cause interference coming through in the radio.. I never looked into it, and wasn't sure that I believed it, but that was what I was told once.

I changed out the radio with one from a junkyard for $15. At first it lost FM then AM....New one (used) was Perfect. Love listening to it. Also have changed out the antenna cable on my ZJ, with one I bought from Advanced. That one took some modification, but it really brought all the stations back like new.

You might need to install some sort of suppression strap between the antenna and a grounding point on the car.

Is the antenna base loose in the fender? That can make for a bad ground connection on the antenna that would cause a weak signal to the radio when engine vibration gets to the sheet metal. Just a guess, mind you.
