shift issue

Default shift issue

need advice on this .. we have an o8 grand cherokee larado .. once great while when start driving , it is an automatic takes a while before it shift out of the first stage... it just cont with high rmp .. and does not shift out of first stage .. other time is fine .. anyone tell me why or what i need to do ?

my 95 xj does that too just take forever to shift but if i take it on the highway and hit 80 in it i will act fine till i shut off the jeep

thanks for quick reply ... this is an 08 .. shift issue sud not be doing this tho . i be at a stop light then .. ready to acelerate.. rpm keep getting higher and no shift from first stage have to either stop or shift to N then back to D then it is fine .. then it is fine why?

Not sure on an 08 but on xjs the tps is the culprit in most cases,it maybe here also. Also do you still have a warranty on it?

i have a CEL for the cps witch can cause mine to stall randomly
but it's been acting weird since i sunk it lol

mmmm geez you got me there I have no clue what tranny etc I have .. we just got this with 53k miles yess still have warranty altho deductible I have to pay 200 to get this checked or worked on . as I mentioned the plm does not happen all the time once in a great while .. was hoping i may somewhat can fix this with out going to the shop

lol water tends to do funny things when it comes to atvs and 4x4

It does not matter what trany you have the tps(throttle position sensor) can cause this.

Hoooahhh !!!! Thanks for clearing up what a tps stands for .. I will look into this .. Guess my next question would have to be.. where is this sensor , and is there a way to test this or just replace it?

tps will be located opposite side of throttle cable on throttle body on intake.
You check them with a volt meter both with the throttle closed and open,I am not familiar with the motor in your jeep but most are the same,the voltage range is approx,0.45 to 4.8 volts.
