sorry if this is a dumb question, but on the top of my dash in my 98 GC i just got i noticed theres a little red light, like the car alarm lights and all. do these come from the factory with alarms, locks type of system integrated into them? sorry i know its prolly pretty dumb this is my first jeep so i have a million dumb questions

so it stays red? my girlfriends 2000 gc has one but it blinks...do you have a "clicker" to unlock the doors?

idk, the wj clicker will activate the alarm but manually locking the doors wont always....

I really hate the factory alarm systems in these, I recommend pulling them...
A faulty throw on it can lead to the cpu disabling the starter, which is a serious PITA to figure out.

if you do pull out the module (located behind the glove box opening on the firewall)
1) make sure you do it while the engine is running.
2) continue to let the engine run for about 15 min
3) on first shut down and start you may need to feather the gas and help it hold idle for a few min while the computer teaches itself how to run properly again
