Would a cheap oxygen sensor gauge connected to the oxygen sensor be of any help to see if it runs to lean or not, or is it to "complicated" to see if its a lean problem from a gauge?

Again, here's a blast from the past. Do what's known as a "Plug Chop". Get it running badly, pulling uphill, and shut off the engine. Pull out a plug, admittedly hard on a hot V8, and look at its condition. You should be able to "read" a lean condition. We used to do this on drag cars to tell if the carb jets were right. With a carb, you would have to shift to neutral at the same time to stop additional fuel from washing to plugs, but with fuel injection fuel should shut off with the ignition. I don't know if this helps, but I wanted to pass on my knowledge.

Maybe I'm just blowing smoke out my ****. You decide.

Injector spray pattern means a lot. It is quite critical on jet engines so I imagine it is also on gas engines. Also, they are pulsed (turned on and off in milliseconds) to control mixture.

In extreme lean conditions, you can burn valves and melt pistons!

I'm starting to run out of ideas. I got a tranny cooler and my engine still runs hot.

So I have hooked my jeep up to a scanner and it shows 194 degrees when the gauge shows 230. I have replaced the sensor and that didn't fix it. Where can I tap into for an aftermarket gauge?

The easiest place is a T connector in the heater hose. The heaters are full flow, meaning they are used as a thermostat by-pass. Use the one coming out of the engine, not the one going into the water pump.

no mention of inspecting your freeze plugs.

They're not leaking. Actually tested with scanner and jeep is running at 194 but factory gauge shows 230.

Finally put in an aftermarket gauge and it never crosses 205. Problem solved after a year.
