Default Replacing Oil Pan

I punctured the oil pan on my 01 Jeep Cherokee Sport. Curious if i could replace the pan and gasket myself ? Does the engine need to be lifted, or is it pretty easy to access? Any tips, things to look out for? And a good place to purchase a skid plate.

Thanks for your help!
- Matt

You just have to get the front axle low enough to get the pan out.

I pulled the oil pan on my GC several times cleaning out sludge and carbon. I done mine on a lift. Remove starter, dust cover on front of trans, exhaust, track bar at axle, tie rod end at pitman arm. BTW this was on a 96 GC with 5.2 engine.

Support it on jackstands under the frame rails and let the axle drop to get enough clearance. Lifting the motor is not necessary. Remove the starter and trans inspection cover and then you can lower the pan. You'll just have to be aware that the oil pickup is hanging down and maneuver around that. Be sure to spring for the more expensive 1 piece rubber gasket with the metal spacers in the bolt holes that prevent the gasket from being crushed.

Thanks I got it done already its a pain doing it on your garage on jackstands, I have remove the starter so it would drop more, I dint wanna remove the exaust pipe after the headers cause does bolts are really rusted and dint want them to snap, wat did give me a hard time was the transmission cooling lines that run to the radiador, there right under the oil pan and you need some plastic keys (cant recall the name of the keys) to get the lines loose and I dint have,
