hey guys I was driving and it keeps telling me my rear liftgate is open and the lights keep coming on and off. Any Ideas or anything I should be looking at. Im planning on just disconnecting it all together. I had to pull one fuse so my overhead lights would shut off so I can drive but the lights in my doors are still on. BTW its a 96 limited 5.2. Thanks

Try adjusting the latch to pull the liftgate in tighter.

I pulled the panel off and found a switch just hanging there but its not the liftgate switch I tried pressing it and nothing not sure what thats for but I got it to shut off lastnight so I wouldnt be dead in the morning. When you say adjust it is that the screw like peice by the latch?

I'm not sure how this works, but I assumed that you weren't closing the hatch tight enough to turn off the lights. Someone has since told me the light switch is in the latch itself. Sorry I can't be more help.

I had a 96 ranger do that a few times with me. Light was staying on even with the door shut. Never found a switch apparently it was in the latch. I just sprayed the latch in the door with a penetrating oil. Problem went away after I sprayed it and open and shut the door a few times.

Ya you can see the switch after I pulled it all aprt it in in the latch. It went off when I pulled the panel. lol Thanks guys
