Please help- Cracked rear Trac bar mount
Hello and thank you in advance for any replies and advice , I'm brand new to forum so please forgive me if this is in wrong section. I have a 98 zj I got in a trade not to long ago, it has 4 inch RC lift and from the looks of things it has the rear Trac bar drop bracket , no expert on jeeps but I've heard bad things about them, I took it wheelin and the next day the rear end felt real swirly so I checked it and sure enough it has a crack on the mount , not the drop bracket but the actual unibody mount right underneath the bolt and the bar is loose. So... What do I do? Should I just get the crack welded ? Or get the welding shop to cut the whole mount off, remake a thicker, more heavy duty one , cause I don't ever want this to happen again and then get an adjustable Trac bar? Please help!!

Welcome to CF!
If it were mine, I'd cut off the old one and have a heavier one fabricated with a diagonal brace and welded on. Then install an adjustable trackbar. Remember that the only thing keeping the axle centered under the jeep is that bar.
You might want to check the front one for cracks as well.

Thanks a lot for the reply, I was considering doing that. Hopefully that won't cost a lot of $$$ but I'm about to find out as I'm takin it to a friend of a friends house who welds. But yeah I'd really like to have another one made up for sure

Before
During
After.. I wanted a new mounted made up but could not afford to do so (250$) so the guy at the welding shop only charged 35$ to weld the washer on, I think he did a great job. I won't be keeping the drop bracket for long as I will order a irok adjustable Trac bar ,

You can see by the way the bolt hole was egg-shaped that the bolt was loose and was working back and forth and that caused it to crack. I hope the washer was a heavy one and the hole in it was close toleranced. This WILL happen again if it isn't.

Do you think it could still happen even after I put a adjustable TB on? Wouldn't it be using the other bolt hole and not the one that just got welded? I don't plan on keeping it like this for to long , and I won't do any heavy wheelin with it til I get the TB.
