Piston ring gap placement?

Yeah, that looks good. The only thing that's important is the top compression ring and the second are opposite each other. Clockwise position doesn't matter and the three segments of the oil ring shouldn't be on top of each other. A miniscule amount of compression is going to leak thru the gaps, but due to the short time involved while the piston is moving, it will never be a factor.
I decided one time to polish my crankshaft journals with some fine crocus cloth so I put it up in a lathe. This was a 17" turret lathe in the machine shop I was working in. After I was finished, I cranked it up to top gear, 750 rpm. I was stunned! That's only idle speed and I could barely see the rod journals! I can't imagine what it looks like a 6000! It's totally amazing engines stay together!
