Toecutter

Well, I think I licked it. My 1998 would randomly die. Sometimes at idle, sometimes at highway speed. It would sometimes just feel like it would miss or sputter and then be fine. There seemed to be no consistency in the occurrence. I did figure out I could reproduce the phenomena by wiggling or poking the middle wiring harness plug where it attached to the PCM. I was then convinced that some of the solder points inside the PCM had separated and I should take it apart and re solder them according to some You Tube videos I had seen. However, when I opened up the PCM and tested the connectivity with a multi meter, there was no problem.







I then decided that it must just be the connection between the harness and the PCM. I found another suggestion on line to build a clamp out of some 1"X1/8" bar stock in order to hold the three plugs on tighter. Here is a look at the final product.



So far, so good. It's only been 1 day but not a single sputter. I will post an update in a few days regardless.

Ya know, sometimes the simplest things solve problems. Very ingenious, toecutter. I'm a metalman and that looks like something I would come up with. If that rig doesn't hold all the plugs tight, try using bits of high density foam to spread out the pressure.
