Default Part time 4wd not working

I have a 98 grand with the transfer case that you can leave in 2hi. My part time does not work. I can be spinning tires with it in part time and only the back is turning. Full time works as does 4lo. What gives?

I have been reading about no242 swaps and a lot of people were saying plastic bushings on the shift selector wear out causing it not to lock the front output.

The bushings are on the shift fork inside the tcase. Just google np242 tcase swap and you'll find lots of pics of tcase internals including the bushings
