Default P0430 Code - need help

Ok, so i've been getting a particular o2 sensor code (don't recall, PO15X or similar) and a PO430 (Cat. Inefficiency) on a '05 Jeep Grand Cherokee V6 (3.7L).

According to one tech, I had a bad a bad Bank 2 sensor when he put it on 'livedata' type mode of his scanner that gives the various sensor values e.t.c.

In any case, due to mileage, I ended up just replacing all 4 o2 sensors just to be sure and the codes disappeared. Now, P0430 has re-appeared after a while and don't know where to go from here. I've been told that it could also be the CATs but don't want to keep throwing money at parts without fixing the initial issue.

In any case, I was reading on a TSB with higher mileage '05 Jeep Grand Cherokee versions may need to get their ECM re-flashed. Could this be the issue or do i need to actually get some new CAT parts?

Anyone have this fix to resolve the PO430 without returning? Appreciate any help

Apparently, all of these are possible reasons:

- Three way catalyst converter Bank 2
- Exhaust tube
- Intake air leaks
- Fuel injectors may be faulty
- Fuel injector leaks
- Spark plugs may be faulty
- Improper ignition timing
- Engine Control Module (ECM)

The P0430 code means that the vehicle's control module has detected that the three-way catalytic converter is not working properly (is not as efficient as the factory is expecting). Replacing the oxygen (O2) sensors may sometimes fix the code, but in most cases the catalytic convert needs to be replaced to fix the problem. If the P0430 code is combined with other codes, try fixing the other codes first.

*all of this just C&P from the net..

There is a recall on that year for a reprogram and reflash but it dates all the way back to 2005. Run your VIN and find out if there are any open recalls.

I took my '00 WJ in for an intermittent air-bag light and they told me I had 3 recalls pending, one for seatbelt anchor bolts, one for a deflector shield on the intake, and a reprogram for the PCM not reading the cat. I haven't had any problems with CEL codes for the 02 sensors or cat yet, but they want to reprogram it anyway. Maybe this is your problem also. I found out the airbag problem is the clock-spring and this problem wasn't an issue on my year vehicle to create a recall, so I've got to pay for it. The clock-spring itself is $300. Ouch!

As much as I hate airbags, they do save lives, so I need to get this fixed. There have been accidents where the driver's airbag didn't go off and caused serious injuries. I could probably replace the clock-spring myself, but my brother had an airbag go off in his face while trying to remove it.
