Default oil dipstick question...

Does anyone else have a little trouble re-inserting the dipstick, into the tube?

I have a little trouble with 2 hands. Any other vehicle I have ever owned, you can basically drop the stick back in the tube.

I'm worried that the previous owner maybe replaced with a cheap knockoff, or the tube is maybe bent?? or maybe its the wrong stick. Mine measures 34" below the handle.

I will, probably soon, go disassemble a JY 5.2 Grand and see what I find. Hopefully it will be an easy repair, but knowing my luck it will be a nightmare. Or the JY jeep will go smoothly, but mine will be a pain.

Any help or ideas are very appreciated.

no issue with mine. a way to check it is on the next oil change put in the recommended amount of oil and then check it against the dip stick. even if the stick has been replaced at least you will have a reference.

The 5.2L dipstick is 34" from the handle shoulder to the tip.

There is a 90º twist ½" from the end.

If the issue is that the dipstick inserts into the tube normally, most of the way, then stops hard, like it is hitting a wall, then the problem is probably that the amount of twist on the tip is wrong.

The twist exists so the dipstick can transition from the long flat blade following the bent tube to then enter the rectangular tube welded to the interior of the oil pan.

If that is the problem, then use the tee handle as a rotational guide, to visually register the tip bend to the handle tee. Insert it until it stops, then examine the handle tee angle and compare it to the oil pan side surface.

Then remove the dipstick and bend the tip rotation so that they match better. I've used two adjustable wrenches to grab onto the two dipstick surfaces to change the bend on mine.

Wingless... thank you very much. This is exactly what I was hoping to find.

Ya know? It's good to know Chrysler thought about providing a guide for the dipstick. GM only had the dipstick passing into the oil pan between 2 main bearings and I've seen cases where the engine has swallowed the dipstick because it got tangled up with the crank's counterweights!
