Default Oil?

I'm gonna do my first oil change tomorrow on my '98 ZJ.
So what weight/type do I use? I've searched around and haven't nailed down an exact type yet.

I have the 4.0 in my 98 ZJ and I use 10w-30 Valvoline. 10w-30 should be okay in your 5.2

I'm running 4 quarts Valvoline 10W30 and 1 quart Lucas Oil Stabilizer in my 1994 5.2L with over 240K miles.

My Haynes manual says it only take 4 quarts? I guess after running it for a while it will cycle through and you'll need extra. Thanks for the info guys I appreciate all the help I've got from this forum

My factory handbook (that came with my Jeep 2-3 owners ago) says 5 quarts for my 1994 5.2L. They may have changed the filter (which could account for up to 1/2 qt) and some other things. If your year calls for 4 quarts, do 3.5 qts 10w30: 0.5 qt Lucas, if you're going to use it.

I like Johnson & Johnson Baby Oil. She purrs like a kitty...

Sorry, just messin, but oil threds are the perverbial black hole of auto forum questions. So many folks use different stuff, and are pretty passionate about it, for some reason. Just run a quality brand of oil, with a weight that works in your climate. There are numerous charts online that explain weights, and what not. FWIW, I run Shell Rotella 15/40 in my Jeep. I use it because, I know Rotella is good stuff, and it is pretty dang cheap at WM! LOL!!

Haha thanks man. Sorry, I'm completely new to this and didn't realize all the differences and what does what at what temperature.

I just went with the 10w/30 and replaced the oil filter.

Everything went fine (besides the hot oil splashing all over my arms ) thanks for everyone's input. I can now add changing oil to the list of things I can do!
