NP247 to a NP242 swapout
Hey, I have an 04 GC laredo 4.7L auto. I'm looking for a little info on what to expect when swapping out the 247 Transfer case to a 242. I want the manual option of 2wd. Plus the clutch in mine is on its way out. I do know that I have to swap the input shaft but what about the output shaft? What about the VIC any chages need to be made and what about the drive shafts and last can I use the current shifter and cable? I know that eventually I'll have to change out the bezel on the console but for now will it due? Any help would be appreciated. Thanx

CLIP?
The 242 is from a 2003, Are you talking about the clip for the cable to selector shaft on the case? And what makes the 231 stronger than the 242? I read that the second number in the model number designates a beefier case which in this case the 4 is higher.

id numbers
Hey 95grc the following is a site that describes what each number in the model number represents. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AMC/Jeep_Transmissions
I couldn't find the original article but this should help.
