Default noobish questions about '95 ZJ

1) I seem to have a leak where the oil filter bracket-y thing connects to the engine. Should I replace the bracket or just try to reseal it? (1B) if I do replace it what size bolt holds it on? Looks like a Torx, but I don't have one that size and don't wanna buy a whole set.

2) is there some way to turn off the interior lights when the doors are open? I figured out how to turn them off when the liftgate is up but I don't see any kind of bypass switch for the doors like most other vehicles have. Sometimes I'm working on the interior for long times and I don't need them on draining my battery.

Had her for a week now and already took her on her very first offroad excursion over the weekend (bought from original owner and I know he never hit the trails, LOL). I tell you what, even completely stock and on older tires she was still pretty impressive.

1) There's an o-ring in there that can be replaced.

2) No. Only the rear dome light switch that you know about and it has no affect with the doors open.

They do not drain too much. I worked on mine for 8 hours with door open and did not affect the battery.

8 hours draining? It did affect the battery's voltage, it's just that you had a good battery.

If you pull the dome/courtesy light fuses they won't come on at all. Even when you start it.

I just think it's weird that there's no way to bypass that. Even the crappiest of my other cars had a switch right there on the dome light, LOL

Yeah I know. On my WJ you can rotate the dimmer switch on the turn signal arm to turn off the dash and dome lights. Wish the ZJ had that feature.

After 8 hour, it did crank the engine and did not notice slow down. I got cheap battery from Advance Auto. Few hours will not drain battery.
