Hello, I am writing to ask for help in diagnosing and repairing a 98 jeep zj 4.0 that I acquired for free because it needed a title and does not start. Getting a title was easy enough. Now, I can not get the fuel pump to kick on. The relay clicks when the key is turned, brand new fuel pump. The fuel pump relay fuse, the 20A one, was blown, and I replaced it. Rats have chewed wires here and there, but the ones I can see that are chewed have nothing to do with no power going to fuel pump, as far as I know anyway. I have checked the terminals on the relay cavity, 30 and 87 I think it is, and after replacing the fuse, have a 12 plus vilt reading at them. Maybe I have missed something, I am stumped. I can not get the fuel pump to turn on! I have checked for power at the connector that the pump plugs into and nothing. Thanks for any help!

Try running a long jumper wire from the relay socket to the fuel pump connector and see if it powers up. That should get you started finding the problem. You can also remove the screws holding down the fuse/relay box and checking underneath it for shorted/chewed wiring.
