Default No start after fuel pump install

I have searched and searched but no luck on a solution...A buddy of mine has a 87 XJ, for some reason the fuel pump relay went out, then some of the fuses next to the relay went out. He bought new fuses and relays and a new pump. Installed all new equipment, XJ started right up and we went wheelin. While he was climbing a hill the XJ shut off, and no restart. Got it back to his house and we can not hear the pump turn on, no fuel in the rails, all relays and fuses good. jump the fuel relay and nothing...were stumped and suggestions?

Did you check the wires for damage? And i mean every CM of the wires from pump to the fuse box. IDK about the '97 but on mine the fuel pump wires are exposed.
