Default newbie here, hello

I'm new to this forum and would like to gather as much info as I can. My daughter is coming home from the Air Force and will need a set of wheels, she has her heart set on a 2006 Grand Lerado, 3.7L, is there anything we need to be aware of other than the obvious wear and tear? Thank you.

Well, Hello! And welcome to CF! There are a good bunch of guys here and we'll help all we can. However....

I myself know quite a bit about the Grand Cherokees up 'til 2004. Beyond that, my knowledge is very limited and I know nothing about the 3.7 but I'm sure there are people here that do. I believe the 3.7 is the same as the 4.7 less 2 cylinders, as in overhead cams, chain driven, with aluminum heads. The aluminum heads pose a problem because they tend to warp when overheated.

I'm kind of partial to the older Jeeps because the newer ones, except the Wrangler, are more cars than trucks. They don't do well with modifications and are not as agile off-road. JMHO.

This vehicle will be her primary on road driver. We did find a clean one in our area with 120K on the odo., new tires, one owner. I am not aware of any tsb's or recalls, seems like a popular engine too.

Yeah, I believe it made it's debut in the Liberty and has a decent reputation.

It's nice to find a good clean one-owner that's been taken care of. When I bought my 2000 Grand Cherokee, it had 125K miles on it, it had immaculate service records and looked like it belonged to a soccer-mom. Not a scratch or spot of rust on it and it had been detailed. All it needed was a good set of winter tires. I've had a few normal parts wear out, but nothing unusual or major. Of course it's the 4.0 inline 6 which seems to last forever anyway.

The 3.7 was designed to replace the 4.0 because it's an old design from the 50's and takes up a lot of room under the hood.

I have no idea what transfer case or drive system they're using in the 2006. If it's going to be a daily-driver, it should work out well.
