I have only owned this vehice for 5 days so if there is something that i am missing please let me know. What could i do to fix this issue ?? is there something on the heater controls that also needs to be on when the seats are on??

1 other question is on the head console control were it tells you the tire pressure and tempature what are the 3 button that say training channel1,training channel 2. What are these for??

The heated seats are also controlled by a Heated Seats Module. http://www.wjjeeps.com/modules.htm
The buttons in question are for the Homelink garage door opener transmitter. http://www.wjjeeps.com/homelink.htm

It could be the switches, but I doubt they would both go bad at the same time. I don't know how to test the module but there might be a way.
There's a member on here user name "seed" that is up on WJ's and might know.

gee, thanks guys i'm blushing....the only help i can be here is to say that the elements going bad on the heated seats is a very common issue for the wj's(my zj's were the same too). If theres any break or short in the element the module will effectively shut off the whole seat(cushion and back),however,i am not sure that would cause both seats to be inoperative.

found this, see if it's any help and i'll look into finding further info:
From the FSM:

DESCRIPTION

The heated seat system includes two seat heating elements
in each front seat, one for the seat cushion and the other for
the seat back. One type of heated
seat element is offered. All models use two resistor wire
heating elements for each seat that are connected in
series with the Heated Seat Module (HSM).
The seat heating elements are glued to the seat and
seat back cushions. The heated seat elements can be
replaced if faulty or damaged, service replacement seat
or seat back elements are available. Refer to the procedure
in this section for detailed instructions.

OPERATION

The heated seat elements resist the flow of electrical
current. When battery current is passed through
the elements, the energy lost by the resistance of the
elements to the current flow is released in the form
of heat. The temperature sensor is a NTC thermistor.
When the temperature of the seat cushion cover
rises, the resistance of the sensor decreases. The
HSM or MHSM supplies a five-volt current to one
side of each sensor, and monitors the voltage drop
through the sensor on a return circuit. The MSM or
MHSM uses this temperature sensor input to monitor
the temperature of the seat, and regulates the
current flow to the seat heating elements accordingly.

DIAGNOSIS AND TESTING - HEATED SEAT ELEMENT
RESISTOR WIRE ELEMENT

(1) Disconnect and isolate the battery negative
cable. The power seat wire harness connectors for the
seat cushion and seat back heating elements are
secured to a bracket located under the rear edge of
the seat cushion frame. Refer to Wiring for complete
circuit schematics and connector locations.
(2) Disconnect the Heated Seat Module (HSM) or
Memory Heated Seat Module (MHSM) C2 connector.
Check for continuity between the SEAT HEATER
B(+) DRIVER circuit cavity of the C2 connector and
the seat cushion frame. There should be NO continuity.
If OK, go to Step 3. If not OK, repair the shorted
seat heater B(+) driver circuit as required.

NOTE: WHEN CHECKING HEATED SEAT ELEMENTS
FOR CONTINUITY, BE CERTAIN TO MOVE
THE HEATING ELEMENT BEING CHECKED. MOVING
THE ELEMENT, SUCH AS SITTING IN THE SEAT
WILL ELIMINATE THE POSSIBILITY OF AN INTERMITTENT
OPEN IN THE ELEMENT WHICH WOULD
ONLY BE EVIDENT IF THE ELEMENT WAS MOVED
IN A CERTAIN DIRECTION. FAILURE TO CHECK
THE ELEMENT IN VARIOUS POSITIONS COULD
RESULT IN AN INCOMPLETE TEST.

(3) Check for continuity between the SEAT
HEATER B(+) DRIVER circuit cavity of the C2 connector
and the ground circuit cavity. There should be
continuity at all times (even upon moving or sitting
in the seat). If OK, proceed with testing the other
components in the heated seat system. If not OK,
replace the open heating element. Refer to the procedure
in this section of the manual.

REMOVAL
(1) Disconnect and isolate the negative battery
cable.
(2) Remove the appropriate seat cushion or seat
back trim cover. Refer to the Body section of the service
manual for the procedures.
(3) Disconnect the inoperative heated seat cushion
or seat back element electrical connectors.
(4) Gently peel-off defective heater element from
foam cushion.

INSTALLATION
(1) Peel off the adhesive backing on the back of the
replacement heating element and install on cushion
pad in the same location as the original.

CAUTION: During the installation of the replacement
heating element, be very careful not to fold or
crease the element assembly. Folds or creases will
cause premature failure.

(2) Connect the new heating element electrical
connectors.
(3) Connect the negative battery cable.
(4) Verify heated seat system operation.
(5) Install the appropriate seat cushion or seat
back trim cover. Make certain the seat wire harness
is correctly routed through the seat and seat back.
The excess wire between the cushion and back elements
should be securely tucked between the rear of
the cushion foam and the rear carpet flap of the trim cover.

And a TSB from www.wjjeeps.com:

TSB #0800401B - HEATED SEAT INOPERATIVE
Date: 12/20/01 (supersedes 0800401A dated 03/01)

Model Year(s): 1999-2004

Description: Heated seat inoperative. On some vehicles the heated seat may be inoperative due to an open circuit in the seat cushion heating element.

Details: This bulletin involves installing a kit to repair an open circuit in the heated seat heating element circuit. Using a digital ohmmeter, check the resistance across the four way heated seat feed connector under the seat. The resistance between terminals “A” and “B” should be 0.90 ohms to 1.90 ohms. If the resistance value falls outside of this range, perform the Repair Procedure.

NOTE: SOME VEHICLES USE CARBON FIBER HEATING ELEMENTS. CARBON FIBER HEATING ELEMENTS HAVE A RESISTANCE OF 10 TO 14 OHMS IN THE BOLSTER ELEMENT. SEATS WITH CARBON FIBER ELEMENTS HAVE TWO CONNECTORS AT THE BACK OF THE SEAT. A TWO WAY CONNECTOR AND A FOUR WAY CONNECTOR. CARBON FIBER HEATING ELEMENTS ARE NOT SERVICEABLE AND REQUIRE REPLACEMENT OF THE SEAT COVER.

Parts required:

P/N 5019769AA - Heated Seat Repair Kit (For cushion only, one kit per heating element, two per cushion)

P/N 5072485AA - "Peel & stick" Heating Element - Seat back (2001-up Vehicles, see Notes below. MSRP: $30.85)

P/N 5072486AB - "Peel & stick" Heating Element - Seat cushion (2001-up Vehicles, see Notes below. MSRP $46.50)

P/N 5000031AA - "Peel & stick" Heating Element - Seat cushion, (2003-2004 vehicles built after September 10, 2002. MSRP $97.00)

The heated seat repair kit, 05019769AA contains detailed installation instructions. Follow the instructions provided in the kit for installation. Refer to the 2002 Grand Cherokee service manual, publication number 81–370–02064, page 8G-14, for instructions on the replaceable heating elements, P/N 5072485AA and 5072486AA).

The Fuse is for the power seats.

Go here and look at Troubleshooting Heated Seats at bottom of page ->http://www.wjjeeps.com/seats/seats.htm
