New to forum.. Couple of ?'s...
Hey all.. New to the forum.. I recently went from my DD being a 77 Cherokee Chief to a 98 GC Laredo.. Gone from a 401 to a 4.0.... A lil bit o'difference.. Now a couple of ?'s.. Last week, my rad decided to spring a good leak & when I got online to look at gettin' a new one, there were 1,2, & 4 row rad's.. Can't tell what's in there right now see'n how it's my DD & can't find anything in the manuals about which one it has... This Jeep will not see any "real" off road action so I'm think'n a OEM rad would suit me just fine.. Anybody know which rad would be fine?? Also, when you first take off in it, whether it was a jump in & go or a 15 min warm up, when it shifts to 2nd, there's is a very noticeable loss in power.. Almost a sputterish kind of moment, but let off the gas & kick it back down, it runs fine... No CEL.. This is a 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo -- 4.0 -- Auto -- 4wd.. Thanks

JMO, but the trans may be hanging up on the 1-2 shift. When you reduce power, it allows the clutches to fully engage and then you're okay. It may be a pressure leak in that circuit or worn clutches, band, etc. Best to have it checked out by a good transmission shop. One you can trust not to try to sell you a total rebuild if it's something simple.
On the rad. My thought is this. Don't go with a single row. If you have the tow package, or plan to climb mountains a lot, go to the 4 row. My 97 ZJ NEVER EVER got above thermostat setpoint regardless of how I drove it or what the air temp was. It was a tow package 4.0 with a 4-row rad.
What's the mileage on your ZJ? The trans and rear axles are problem points on that model jeeps. Or any jeeps.
