I was doing some maintenance on my ZJ. I finally got new battery terminals installed.
I used lineman pliers to cut the cables right at the base where they went into the stock terminals from both, the + and - cables. I taped it together here at the negative side to make things easier. I fanned out the brass strands at the ends of each cable, how it is shown below in the next picture at the positive side.
I pressed the two fanned cables together one on top of each other for both + and - sides, pinched them together at the sides where they fan out, and slide them into the new terminals.. and tightened it all together how it is shown below at the positive side.
I put electrical tape on each side, wrapping from about an inch below and up to the terminal, how it is shown below at both the + and - sides.

The old ones cut off.. Below is a picture of the new terminals final installation. I put the plastic shielding back over and in place on all of the cabling. You can probably see the dielectric grease I put on the battery posts a thin layer of it, and at all the more exposed areas at each terminal too. New terminals complete.

I can't add anything because I did exactly the same thing on my WJ except I used liquid electrical tape over the exposed copper. It's been a couple of years now with no problems. I usually clean the ends and battery terminals whenever I disconnect for electrical work.

The only thing about the WJ is the battery cables only stick out a couple of inches from a huge bundle of wires that is really stiff and will have to be cut open if it needs to be done again.
