Posted before with no results.. This may be a 4 Whl. Dr Problem?? We are totally lost. Could it be a Trans Axle problem?? Please review and help?
This is driving my mechanic and myself crazy. Jeep runs fine, feel a slight wobble from the front end, this stops. After driving in stop and go driving the engine feels like slight miss, Then the Wobble increases won't excel and won't gone over 40 MPH, the temp starts climbing ,(feels like the front brakes are locking, smelled pads burning), Paid $80.00 tow bill, mechanic checked all and replaced a vac line and front wheel sensors on both sides, this replacement of sensors repaired cruise control, that had stopped working. After all this driving the other day Interstate backed up for 14 miles and coming off the exit ramp, it started again, front end felt funny engine miss, WOBBLE ON FRONT, won't excel after light, 40 MPH max, temp rising so I pulled over and sat letting it cool down. After it cooled down it still wouldn't excel over 40 MPH, THIS TIME I DOWN SHIFTED TRANS. TO MANUEL 2ND GEAR AND IT SEEMED BETTER, TEMP STOPPED CLIMBING, AT THIS POINT I WENT FURTHER, TURN OF THE OVERDRIVE AND SHIFTED MANUAL TO DRIVE. I drove it home,12 miles and parked it, the temp stayed normal, no wobble in the front wheels. My question is it the trans, is it the over drive, is it the trans axles, is is a module or ?????. So far in excess of $500.00 spent and no results.

First of all, this is a WJ, not a WK. Is it an NP247 transfer case (4wd only)? If it is, remove the front driveshaft and drive it to see if it makes a difference. If not replace the front driveshaft and then replace the 2 front brake hoses or the calipers pistons are sticking if you still have the Teves calipers. Swap to the Akebono calipers since they are much less prone to piston problems. If you swap to Akebono calipers, you'll need the mounting brackets as well. They will come with fully loaded brake kits.

Thank you for the help, It's Not an all time 4 wheel drive. We have a manual shift on the console. If I knew the difference, wj or whatever I would have listed correctly, sorry..... 4.0 with 164,000, was and has run like new.

Correct. The NP247 has 4wd, N, 4lo on the shifter. The NP 242 has 2wd, 4wd part time, 4wd full time, N, 4lo on the shifter.
I'm thinking you have brake problems anyway. If the transfer case was locking up, you wouldn't be smelling the brakes. And yes, those big dual piston calipers can overpower the engine.
Just to learn more about your jeep, go to wjjeeps.com
The WJ was built from 99-04, the WK was built from 05-10, and the WK2 was built from 11-21.
