99 jeep grand Cherokee lost reverse and neutrals a drive gear

Reverse went out on my 99 jeep grand Cherokee Laredo 4.0 4×4 my neutral has turned into a drive gear this happened months ago but while I was outta town working my battery died(when this happened the first time I also lost a couple gauges speed and tac )but I got back in town bought a new battery And I got reverse and my gauges back.Don't know what to think of this any suggestions

Did adjusting the transmission linkage per the FSM fail to resolve the problem?

Does the cabin transmission selector lever now result in the correct transmission range?
