Default Need some advice! Please having trouble!

I have a 95 jeep grand Cherokee the belt started squeaking, I've replaced the belt and new idler pulleys and still squeaks a mechanic told me to take power stealing fluid put on a rag and with motor running wipe it on belt if the squeak stops I have an alignment issues well it did stop for a little bit, the belt looked a little out of alignment on my fan clutch pulley so I took along screw driver while the jeep was running and put pressure on belt pulling it towards motor and the squeak stops so do I need new clutch? And another question is the fan suppose to spin freely when motor is off and when jeep is on it takes awhile for fan to spin like its slipping and you can stop the fan with your hand. I'm new at this so adivce would be so helpful! Please and thank you!

how many fingers you have left? Hope you did this with the motor off.
Try tightening the belt a little more.
By spin freely do you mean with no resistance? You should be able to
turn it by hand, but it won't spin.

Find a new mechanic and never dink around with the serpentine belt while the engine is running. You're lucky you still have all of your fingers.

I've tried several different tensions still squeaks! The fan spins really slow slow enough to grab it and you can move it clockwise and counter clockwise while motor is running but sometimes it does spin full I hate to bring it in cause of the cost. Still have fingers!!

You can lock it solid instead of replacing it, but it will rob about 25 to 30 hp off your motor. It may be fine now, but when it gets warm outside, it will overheat the way it is. Chances are, if your water pump pulley is out of alignment, the bearing is shot. My 97 4.0 was very loose and still didn't leak.

IMO, grab a junkyard fan clutch and replace the water pump. I would buy a premium pump with a metal impeller because the plastic ones tend to shatter, especially on the 4.0.

Wow , playing with a running engine. Never do that. Are you sure your mechanic is on your side? Things can happen so fast you won't be able to react. Even the best of mechanics usually will not mess with a running engine around the belt areas. Grab some plug wires while you are doing that next time as well. lol . Dont really do that. As far as your fan goes, just get a new or used one. Or even remove it and go with an electric setup. A clutch fan is supposed to be easy to turn when not running. But if it isn't truning when running it will overheat it. I would have to look at mine to see if it is a clutch fan. I would think it would be.

Try 'adjusting' the A/C compressor.

It 'feeds' the belt to the idler pulley and can cause a squeaking.

I know it did on mine, but in my case I could also see that the belt was not tracking properly on the idler.

I loosened the four A/C comp bolts a tad, then ran the motor and I could induce the squeak or stop it by slightly shifting the A/C compressor.

Is it the 4 main bolts on top of a/c comp motor and when I look down on belt is does look like its out of alignment from the power steering pulley to the fan pulley is there a way to adjust the belt by power steering, I know you can slide the power steering to adjust the tension.

On my 97, there was a bolt on the back side of the power steering pump bracket that's bolted to the block. That bolt may be missing, especially if the intake manifold was ever removed. I almost missed it when I put mine back together. It's a short 10mm thread with a 15mm head. Without it, the pulley will be tipped toward the engine on the part the belt doesn't contact. Check the edges of the belt to see if it's riding against the flanges. An old belt will be chewed up.

So been gone working but back now I actually had time today to work on the jeep I changed my water pump and thermostat, I did thermostat cause my temp gauge was staying at 125 and really didn't have good heat, my temp gauge and heat still don't work after changing thermostat and pump. I got water pump in and all back together and she still squeaks I think I just have a major alignment issues just don't get it lol!! And I will go look to see if I have that bolt for the power steering bracket.

Dude! You would have had to remove it to change the water pump!
