Default Need a real savy 46RH Transmission Tech

Here goes I have a 1994 jeep grand cherokee limited, 5.2L 4x4 with the 46RH transmission. It upshifts fine cold or hot, But will not downshift once it hits 3rd gear or overdrive. When coming to a stop it will start to stall unless I manually move the shifter to 2nd. If I leave it in 2nd it works fine starts shifts and stops no problem. If I put it in drive it starts out in 1st and shifts along all gears with no problem and will even kickdown from overdrive to 3rd or 3rd to 2nd if I mash on the gas to speed up but coming to a stop wont come out of 3rd gear or the torque converter will not disengage and will stall. The 46RH is hydraulically controled except for overdrive and torque converter lockup so its not affected by the TPS and does not have a governor or kickdown solenoid. It also has no TCM, its built in to the PCM as I was told after ripping the entire dash out looking for it. It also has no output speed sensor on the tranny only the speedo on the rear of the transfer case which works good. It shows no codes no clues for where to look next. Filter and fluid changed twice. Anyone with a clue please chime in and ill give it a go, thanks Clint

Ed, welcome to the forum.

Proper action is to not resurrect a dead topic to hope that information is gleaned that is applicable for your issue. Instead create a new topic. Identify your vehicle year, engine, transmission and transfer case. Clearly define the issue(s) at hand. Members will be glad to assist.

He only posted because the link doesn't work. I'm thinking unplug the lockup solenoid. It probably isn't venting.
