Default motor n trans question

A year or so ago I bought the Jeepn magazine. It had Jeeps the factory should have made and had a 98GC. It stated that the ultimate GC would be to take out a Ram 360 and auto trans/transfercase and slap into the GC.

Has anyone done this ?

I have been seeing the 5.9 limiteds for sale lately and looking to either build myself or buy one outright. I have access to a 360 truck motor with trans n case reasonably and thought I might try it.

Hopefully one of you gearheads has done this and can point me in the right direction.

Get out the big shoe horn. I believe the 360 is a big block right?

No, actually it's the same physical size as a 318 (5.2). It's just a bigger bore, longer stroke version from the same family. It's still a small block.

The reason I asked is that his is is a truck motor. Those I think were a big block, or at least used to be a destroked 383.

The truck 360 from the 50's was a big block. Those big blocks , (the B/RB family- 360, 383, 413, 426 Wedge and Max Wedge, 426 Street and Race Hemi, and 440) have the distributor in the right front of the engine. The LA family- (273, 318, 340, 340 6 pack, and 360) have the dist. in the rear. The LA engine's are similar in design and size to the Magnum engine's (318 & 360) although no parts interchange.
The 360 from the ram pick-up is the same as was used in the '98 ZJ 5.9 Limited except for different intake and exhaust manifolds.

No, you're good. I just wish I knew 1/10th what you know about Jeeps.

It can be done, what year ram would you be getting the drivetrain from?

Bear in mind you will most definitely want to swap out your D35 rear for a D44 to handle that motor which means re-gearing your front end as well.
