Bought my first jeep back last week 96 grand Cherokee limited5.2L sold it a few years ago and it's been torn apart. Got to re assembling it and am missing all bell housing bolts and the starter bolts also missing the cv axle bolts may have wording wrong but it's for shaft runs from transfer case to front axle. Does anyone know what size bolts any of these are would be greatly appreciated. And would grade 8 bolts work for replacements?

 

Not the cv axle it's front drive shaft bolts im looking for my bad.

 

Yes grade 8 bolts are at specs, but the type 3 driveshaft connection at the front differential yoke uses a CV joint, it uses 6 application specific bolts and 3 flat springs (I guess that's what they are) that couple with the mounting bolts, fine threaded, and s customized length, you need to go to the junkyard for the bolts and flat springs. The type 1 and 2 front driveshafts utilize a standard u-joint connection and it is always recommended that whenever u-joint straps are removed replace them with new ones, they stretch once torqued. They are on ebay or auto parts store, u-joint strap kit comes with bolts.

The starter uses a stud on the intboard side that is used for a connection between the starter and header pipe and a bolt long is used on the outboard side, that's the set up on my 95 ZJ 5.2, again go to the junkyard to get these. The same with the transmisson bell housing bolts, the large bolts are tapered and metric, the others bell housing bolts seem sort of generic, while your at the junkyard pull one from top of the bell housing to use for matching up with, but pull the 2 large tapered bell housing bolts that are difficult to accrue. Heck, just pull all of them form the junkyard, make it easy and pull the easily accessible bolts from several vehicles.

These bolts are sort of genetic, meaning that you can find them on other vehicles that use the same transmisson, or even similar. The starter bolts screw into the transmisson. Go get um and post, you don't even need that many, like 8, maybe 10, while your at it check for your torque converter cover bolts too.

 

I believe the transmisson is used in similar vintage Chrysler and Dodge (Ram, etc) vehicles.

 

If you still want the thread pitch and bolt and head size I can measure them, as you can see they are metric.

Update first thank you all for the help on everything but anyways local rural king had all bolts I needed to bolt trans up took few trips but I got it bad thing is bolted trans up went to move flywheel to put torque converter bolts in and the "rebuilt motor" is locked up.

 

try removing the spark plugs and squirting a little wd-40 or trans fluid in each cylinder.
