Mercedes transmission in my '06 Grand Cherokee?

My transmission has begun to stutter so I gave it to the transmission shop. He is going to change the torque converter first and if that doesn't help, he is going to rebuild the tranny. He says since it is a Mercedes box, it is expensive. Did Chrysler actually use a Mercedes transmission in the '06 Grand Cherokee Laredo with 3.7 motor?

I far as I know the diesel setup was Mercedes as Chrysler owned Mercedes at that time1998–2007 hence "Daimler Chrysler".

Yes, the 3.7 V6 got a Mercedes 5 speed auto while the V8 models used a Chrysler transmission.

my daughters 06 had the shutter, turned out to be a bad solenoid in valve body at 80K miles. Fixed it myself for a couple hundred.
