Default Looking at a nice zj

So I am looking at to buy a zj from someone I know kind of a little.. Don't know him well. But here's what he's got:

A 1997 4wd 4.0L white tsi a one owner jeep with 126,000miles on original motor, trans, the whole vehicle oitside of normal replacement maintinance pieces like a water pump etc...

Its got the 2wd, 4wd-part time, 4wd full time, neutral, and 4wd-lo on the lever.. The leather seats have all been replaced for some reason with cloth ones don't know why? Dark wood grain accents. Interior looks very good. Exterior looks great too, except for the passenger side door has a rust spot running down 5'' or so from the mirror area. No other rust really at all anywhere else on or under it that I see. The a/c and heater only blow up out from the defrost vents (which could probly be super easy if just a vacuum line somewhere cracked or needs reatatched.. or just manually move the lever near passenger side floor kickboard.. or blend door problem that I could do easily just cut thru the plastic to access and replace with the better aftermarket metal part ones), but its cold a/c and hot heat. Maintenance history on this one is excellent and all there.. No accidents, carfax, and clean/clear title.

What do you think? Jump all over this one or what! I don't need it, but want it... Would have to figure out how to transport it or tow it home eventually somehow bc I am working 15hrs from where home is. But could get it and keep it here while I thoroughly go over the thing front to back top to bottom after its mine. If its as solid as it appears I'll switch out of my wj to work out of this one. I travel a lot and drive and idle my vehicle all day. Jeep is my daily driver as well as my daily office 14hr day 7 day each week.

What would you think a zj like this one is worth?

The guy selling it has told me that I need to be able to find a stretch of road.. bc it will only work once it gets up to 88mph. Is this accurate information?

Sounds good to me, it has a selectrac transfer-case and is in good shape, id be all over the thing. The air only coming out of the defrost is a common issue, Id check the notorious "T" on passenger side in the engine bay close to the firewall. When the insurance totaled out my zj they offered $900, an insultingly low number, I talked them up over 400% from there original offer and they gave me $4,200. mine was getting rusty along the tail gate, was a lorado and was starting to develop a slight rod knock, Id offer $2,000 and move on from there

I think I'll hopefully be going to pick it up tomorrow evening. He gave me his price. I offered $200 less than what he was asking.

Going to get it for $1750.00

What do you think? Does it at least appear that I did good? I'm soo happy with it right now! Did a very thorough hour long look-over with like 30-40min of it idling while looking and thinking to myself 'wow this is gonna be all mine'!!

It has shotty tires and a very few minor quircks (nothing at all really), but it really seems to have been all-around extremely well kept, and it is in excellent shape in and out! 121,556 miles on it when I took ownership, and first drove it as mine after the deal was done. I'll post more about it and start another thread later bc I am super super glad I saw this Jeep for sale, and it's mine! Now some other day down the line, to round out what I want my collection to be, I'll be looking out for a killer deal on a XJ. I have a vision for this here ZJ to start on first though... So, not even thinking about going online to look around for my XJ anytime soon just yet.

Thanks for looking. Can't wait to read what people here have to say about it!

Nice find. I'm looking at a 1993 Laredo with 145k, 5.2L, 4x4.

Thanks. You'll have to post up some pics if you decide to get the Jeep you're looking at... Great vehicles! Well worth their costs.

I keep having trouble thinking about how there are still very good condition low mileage older Jeeps like these popping up for sale like they do.!. I guess they made soo many of them, and they were expensive at the time. So, some were bought by 'mature-er' peoples who some took care of them probably right? I mean the one I just bought was owned by one single person for 22 years! That is a long long time to own a vehicle from new.

The only thing on yours I don't care for is the side steps. That's one of the places the ZJs like to rust.

I know.. The side-steps on this are ridiculous! I was wondering if they're aftermarket? The other owner added them on this Jeep? If so, that person must have been really short, because it doesn't sit very tall how it stands right now. No one planning to take this offroad would think of adding something like those to get hung-up on stuff. I'll definitely be taking them off...

He probably installed them for his wife! My wife needed a short stool to get into my 3/4 ton Chevy 4X4 with the 33x12.5s on it.
