My 02 Grand Cherokee Overland is giving me a fit, can anyone answer my questions or point me in the right direction?
First off is the hydraulic cooling fan. Dealer says "it's shot, we can install you a new one for $2200".
I find that hard to believe because the fan spins, not fast, but probably 200 rpm at idle and increases some at higher rpm's and it has never overheated. Next when you turn the steering wheel the fan stops, and finally I'm getting code P1499 hyd fan solenoid malfunction.
The next question is about the ASD Relay, I can wiggle it or tap on it and it kills the engine. I'm assuming the relay is bad?
If anyone has any info on these two things I would greatly appreciate it.

The ASD relay may not be bad, it may be the wiring connections underneath the socket. Swap the relay with a headlight relay and see if it makes a difference. If not, dismount the PDC (relay/fuse box) and inspect the connections on the bottom of it.

On the hydraulic fan, if the fan spins and there are no leaks, I would suspect it's just the solenoid. I wouldn't spend $2200 to fix it without researching alternatives first.

Welcome to CF!

Thanks dave1123. I didn't think about switching the relays to see if the problem was still there before purchasing a new one. I will try that.
As for the fan I have been searching for a solenoid for it, but mopar.com doesn't offer just a solenoid, only complete assembly and all other part suppliers I can think of don't either.

Yeah, that's why some guys faced with the same problem have gone with an electric fan system. There are several posts on this subject recently.

I'll have to research it then. I'm curious on how they do that, since the hydraulic fan is controlled by computer.

There is one recent post about a Taurus fan install. He used a thermostatic sensor in the upper radiator hose and a relay to control the fan. He did a real nice job of it and listed all the parts he used. It's currently on page 3 but the original post may be on page 4. It was in the middle of June, I think. His username is ZJMAX. After reading his posts, you can PM him with questions if you have any. I think there was a problem with fooling the computer to turn off the CEL light.
