Hi all - brand new to the Jeep family. I have a 98 Grand Cherokee that has developed a P0442 code. Need to get it through inspection so it can be registered.

I've changed the gas cap and I have heard it's best to use OEM. I have a NAPA right next door to where I work and got one there for now and it was only 8 bucks.

I wanted to poke around and check out the connecting hoses to the evap canister (currently having some issues getting the bumper cover off) when I could smell gas. I detected it is coming from what I believe is the leak detection pump (LDP and filter?). It is a small can with a fat hose going to it from below mounted to the driver's side fender close to the purge valve. I can smell raw gas from the top of this. Is this normal? I thought the whole idea of the evap system is to keep vapors from escaping.

Anyone else know the most common cause for this code?
