Default Not in Park??

hey folks new to the forums here. I have a 94 Cherokee limited . I went to install new rotors and pads. As I got out of the jeep after I parked it I could hear creaking almost like the front pads were still releasing on the rotor . I went to the back of the jeep and rocked it back and forth to be sure its in gear and I could feel the clunk of it being in gear as I rocked back and forth . BUT if I push hard and steady forward I can ever so SLIGHTLY see the jeep and feel it still roll forward yet rocking back and forth can feel its in park... Can anyone help me explain this. Thank you..

Welcome to CF!

What it MIGHT be, is if it's got the np249 constant 4wd transfer case and the front driveshaft is removed, the viscous clutch will slip enough to let it move in park. I've heard this will happen, but haven't experienced it myself.

Yes it definitely has the front shaft removed. I just bought the jeep and the previous owner said he disconnected the front shaft because it was making noise. How can I tell if the front part of the transfer case is moving in the event I wanna reconnect the front shaft?
