Default Interior lamps stay on

*1998 Grand Cherokee 5.9L Limited.
*140,000 Miles
*Tailgate Open sensor has been signaling since I got the Jeep a year ago.
*All doors sensors show doors are closed.
*This Jeep was victim to the popular "mystery drain" and I put a relay in to cut power when the key isn't in the ignition (thank GOD, or this would be even worse!!!)

With that out of the way - I can't get my interior lamps to shut off. I can't find the sensor for the tailgate (the doors are big buttons and easy to find). Is it in the latch? I also figure I may have a short in my interior light/dimmer switch? Which would be more likely? Or is there something else that I may be missing? During the day, it's not so bad, but it's ANNOYING to drive with them on at night.
TIA

I would suspect the dimmer switch being bad. I don't know where the hatch switch is located.

It's in the latch, inside the hatch.

I have had both the dimmer and the rear litgate sensor go bad, both are easy to do, but the dimmer will set you back at least 75 if you have the auto on/off function. every zj in 2 local jy's were already missing the headlight/dimmer switch, therefore very common problem.

im having the same exact problem in my 96 zj... overhead lights are on until the vehicles shut off.. my suspicion is a bad switch in one of the doors, but i think ill check the function of the switches too... when the vehicles shut off theyll go off, but when its running they wont

It could be any of the door switches, or the hatch switch inside the hatch. Or the cargo light in the rear by the hatch has been pressed, turning on the interior lights and needs to be pressed to turn them off. This happened on my '97. I had to look in the owners manual to figure it out.
