i have the 4.7 and it appears the crankshaft seal is leaking, i thought it was my oil pan gasket but im pretty sure its this seal. my question is....is it a big pain in the rear to replace it? if its not i'll probably just go ahead and do it when i replace my axles.

The 4.7 has a one piece rear main seal that attaches to the rear of the block face in a housing, so the trans has to come out, or at least back enough to remove the flexplate, so you can get to the seal retainer.
