I would say it is closer to .750", they made both lengths for this transfer case. I don't want to buy the wrong one.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Now it looks like 13/16" or .8125".........probably a .840"
So where is it supposed to be measured from?

Engine-I6 1993, and yes I'm getting rid of the 249 and installing a 242. I'll try to find one that bolts right in, but I'll rebuild it if I need to.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Found a NP242J w/ .750" shaft 30 miles away..............just hope it has the right style gearcut.
I couldn't figure out where the build date was on the case when I looked at it. Now I know I'll go back and look.
This is a guide to show you how to determine the build date and it shows you how to measure the length of the input.

Any case made before mid 94 will work, don't get one after that date if you plan on swapping the input shaft cause it will basically eat itself. There should be a small circle tag on the rear of the case that says the manufacture date

He said it's the newer style with the different driveshaft and I think it will have the different annulus gear. Guess I gotta keep looking.

Honestly if the input shafts are only off a tenth of an inch I would just swap the whole case. A tenth of an inch to short will not hurt anything

The shaft is the right length, but they changed the gearcut in mid 1994.
What were you saying about it eating itself?

It will only eat itself if you mix parts in a case between the gear cut change. If you put the whole case in without swapping internals it will be fine
