iac and idling
1998 Jeep grand Cherokee laredo 4.0 (straight 6)
First off i woke up and found that my Jeep wouldn't idle whatsoever. I replaced the iac valve and now its idling at 1500 rpms when before this happened it sat around 700-900 rpms. I've tried disconnecting the battery and connecting it back up. I have no leaks in my intake tubing. When I drive it will kind of start to sputter a little bit. I have no idea what is going on. So some help would much be appreciated! thanks

Hello!
I joined recently to get help with a rusty cooling system and don't know much about the fuel delivery system on the 4.0. However, I've never let a lack of knowledge stop me before
.
Past experience with other engines would point to "false air" getting into the system down stream of the MAF. How have you checked for leaks? ShoeGoo works wonders on Alfa L-Jets, after the leak has been ID'ed by spraying brake cleaner (no residue) or starting fluid around joints and flex points and listening for a change in engine operation. Also, can't go wrong with the "wiggle" test.
Is the accelerator linkage operating freely and allowing the throttle plate to close completely?
Strange, when vehicle runs great the day before, then wakes up ill.
All the best.

Steve, when looking for vacuum leaks, an unlit propane torch works the cat's! It's called "propane enrichment". It's dry and can be pinpointed.
