Default Hypethetical 5.9 Build Question

If I were to build up the 360 in my 98 Grand, what kind of limit should I set for myself before I have to upgrade the transmission and 4 wheel drive components? Sorry... I'm kinda new to the whole "Jeepin" thing.

What do you have in mind? That will help us give you an idea. I know of a few 9ers that are 408 strokers with superchargers on them running stock drivetrain except for a built trans. Check out thespeedfreaks.net.

Thats awesome to hear! I wasn't even thinking anything that drastic... just replacing the cam and heads plus some exhaust work to about 350HP. So thats great news for me. My main concern was whether or not the transfer case would accept that kind of horsepower.
Thanks for the advice.

Depending on the transfercase, it will vary. i know the 231 will handle large amounts of power and there are kits out there to make it even stronger to. I think the main thing would be your tranny..

A lot of power is great, but only if you have the traction to back it up. The 5.9 has a lot of ***** from the start, I'm afraid any more horsepower and torque will break stuff really fast. But it is your rig and you can build it any way you want, so it does not matter what I say.

I think your t-case will be fine.
Here's a thread that tells how to beef up your trans to hold up. https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f5/46r...rebuild-53336/
Post some pics if you can.

Here are the plans for my 5.2, use the same except stroker kit for your 5.9:

Already have the TB and I may go with the Air Gap for the intake mani instead of a ported kegger. If you join thespeedfreaks.net look up a member by the name MSaine. He builds performance Jeep trannys for a reasonable price.

It DOES matter what you say... that's why I'm asking the question here!

I get what you mean... it's just that being a long time Mopar guy, it's so tempting to build that 360 a little!

760x Joint Dana 30 Shafts
XJ Front driveshaft
231j Transfercase

I am working on a HPD30 swap at the moment, and then i plan to do either an 8.8 OR D44 rear. all for 33s
