Yes, a DRB II Scan Tool will display and will permit clearing fault codes.

Stored faults that have been corrected will be automatically cleared after about 50 ignition cycles.

Note that disconnecting the battery does not clear the ABS fault code.

Actually, the ABS fault does not set a code. That's why it has it's own warning light. The PCM runs a diagnostic scan of the system at intervals and sets the light if it detects a fault. The light will go off as soon as the fault is corrected, so I'll bet you still have a problem somewhere. Try cleaning the rust off your tone rings on the front axle.

I've been told only the dealer has the equipment to scan the ABS system.

The FSM says that the light will extinguish after the fault is corrected after about 50 ignition cycles.

Here is a DRB II scanner for ~$500. I haven't located aftermarket scanners. All these old OEM scanners are in this range.

I just got the BlueDriver bluetooth Scanner for $99 on amazon, and it DOES scan and clear ABS codes. It also can scan and clear check engine, transmission and airbag codes. I unplugged my ABS relay just to try it out and a coded popped up right away. It nice to be able to view live data while the engine is running as well. All and all it was a good buy, just wish it had live transmission data, like fluid temp!

What model year vehicle?

It does not look like the BlueDriver works w/ the older 1994 vehicles.

Ahh good catch! BlueDriver will work with any 1996 or newer vehicle with OBD II.

The "easy" solution is to screw-in a thermal probe / digital thermometer onto the 1/8" NPT probe port on a Derale Deep Transmission Pan.

I don't see a price on there, and doubt it would be in the budget for this ZJ unless it was free!

You know...they make torque converter temp gauges that go into the cooling line as it comes out of the transmission. They are not free, though.

I've turned it on more than 50 times and the error doesn't clear. What you're saying isn't correct.

You're talking to a 10 yr old thread.
That said, my Toyota 4Runner ABS you can jumper a terminal under the hood and cycle the key on and off and it will read the fault codes by flashing the abs light, also will reset the abs. FYI it immediately clears a fault code if you fix the problem.

Hello again.

I managed to fix the fault. First, I managed to erase the left side with a good machine from a garage. With the regular machine, it only read the fault but didn't erase it.

The right side was no good. First, the sensor wasn't perpendicular, and second, when it was, the cable broke, which was detected with the machine. I repaired the cable, reinstalled the sensor in my XJ, started it, and after a few seconds, the dashboard light erased itself, without needing to erase the fault with the machine.

When I get the homologation, in time, I'll try to install the sensors permanently; they're currently held in place with silicone molding.

Thanks, everyone.
