Default How to clean up factory rims 97 GCL

I have the standard factory rims on my 97 and they are horribly stained black!!! I had my 97 out to my mechanic and his GF cleaned them up when I had all 4 brakes done. There was some liquid coming out of the lug nut holes and that in turn stained the just cleaned rims up and got full of dirt and got back to the original dirty condition as before she cleaned them up. Someone said to use brake pad cleaner....but someone else said that was no good and would pit the rims big time.

I would include a photo but Jeep is out at mechanic's house again for more repairs, muffler replacement, new fuel pump, coil, and rear diff oil change. When I get her back I will post photo of just how horrible front rims are now.

How or what do you use to clean these rims up?

If you want "old school", use kerosene and a bristle brush followed by a garden hose. For lighter stains, use a spray engine cleaner and the car wash hose (high pressure water). Your stains are probably from lube used on the studs and brake dust. Not very hard to remove with high pressure car wash.

It takes some pretty powerful stuff to pit aluminum wheels that road salt won't anyway.
